What is shutter speed?
Shutter speed is the length of time that the lens inside the camera lets in light. The amount of light that reaches the image is proportional to the exposure time.
What are the 3 types of shutter speed?
There are 3 main types of photography which are:
- Stop action
- Blurred action
- Panned Action
What is stop action?
Stop action is when you focus on one thing and it freezes the motion. This is used to create a clear image with no blurred lines. Stop action is used on a high aperture of 1000" or higher.
This is a good example of stop action because the dog is catching the ball and is stopped in the air.
What is blurred action?
Blurred action is catching a rapidly moving object and this creates a blurred image. The shutter speed is usually 1"15 or lower.
This is an example of blurred action, as you can see the horse is running. Also you can see some of the image is blurred out.
What is panned action?
Panned action is where you follow the subject you are taking the photo of with the lens. This will create a dramatic photograph. This is usually made by a low shutter speed.
This is an example of panned action. If you look at the picture you can see some of the image is blurred so you can tell the camera has moved with the dog to create this motion.
My examples of shutter speed
This is an example of stop action. As you can see the photo shows someone jumping in mid air.
This is blurred action. As you can see it is a bit blurred.
This is panned action. As you can see it is blurred a lot.
